Chic in New York: Etos

I've written about Etos before but they have recently renovated their space and it's definitely worth another look.  The store is owned by Mercedes Desios and Alberto Villalobos who met while they were students at the New York School of Interior Design.  They share not only a store but an interior design business and the chicest sense of style.  Mercedes is Italian and Alberto is Colombian and it seems like they are always flying off somewhere exotic to source for the shop and holiday.  They are not only talented but honestly two of the nicest people I've ever met.  Their travels mean the shop is an eclectic mix of antiques, accessories and new pieces.  I especially love the pre-Colombian bowls that Alberto brings back from visiting his family.  I hope you'll stop by the next time you're downtown.

Club Monaco at Shopbop

Club Monaco is one of my favorite retailers in New York.  I always know I can find great clothing and accessories that don't scream where I bought them.  I would always feel bad about posting my favorite pieces on Habitually Chic though because not many of my readers have access to their stores but all that has changed today.  Shopbop has partnered with Club Monaco to offer their fabulous fall collection for sale online.  I attended the launch party last night and am already eyeing that plaid coat above.  It would be perfect for the cooler temperatures today.  I'll leave the over the knee socks to you tall skinny girls! Happy Shopping!

Chic in New York: Gap & CFDA Limited Edition Collection

The CFDA was very busy this week. First, they announced that they would be releasing American Fashion Designers at Home this fall and today, they have unveiled their collaboration with the Gap. The three CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners, Monique Péan, Patrik Ervell and Sophie Théallet, have designed special pieces that will be sold exclusively at the Gap's Fifth Avenue store. I'd take a walk over there today before they're gone! Happy Shopping!

DMU Contour Fashion Offers Short Courses In Intimate Apparel Making

The world class teaching on De Montfort University’s (DMU) intimate apparel courses is available to the public for the first time via a range of short courses. DMU’s Contour Fashion team, recognised the world over as a leader in the underwear and swimwear industry, offers short courses in a variety of disciplines including bra making and structured lingerie.

The courses are primarily designed and run for businesses in the sector who wish to send their staff for continuing professional development. But they are now also open to members of the public who wish to develop their skills.

Gillian Proctor, who joined DMU this year as Programme Leader and Principal Lecturer for Contour Fashion and Fashion & Contour Design, said the courses are a great opportunity to be trained by the tutors of Britain’s longest-established degree specialising in intimate apparel and lingerie.

Gillian said: “As well as teaching the next generation of lingerie designers and advising the fashion industry on trends and technical excellence, we offer businesses and individuals the opportunity to attend short courses which impart ongoing technical skills and encourage and enable creativity.”

Watches From HAUTLENCE With Masculine & Rugged Looks

HAUTLENCE, one of the most coveted Swiss luxury watch brands, highlights its amazing evolution with the introduction of the HLS Collection. The new HLS01, HLS02 and HLS03 models are more masculine and rugged than the previous models but show originality in every detail. These models are interpretations of a strong and unique concept that takes watch making technology a step further.

The latest HLS timepieces have rubber straps and brushed steel which gives them a more contemporary look. The uniqueness in telling time using these instruments lies in the double device of a jumping hour coupled with a retrograde minute display which creates a three-dimensional timekeeping experience all within a distinctive case.

The small seconds hand is in a little dial at 5 o’clock while the intriguing rods, evocative of yesterday’s trains, drive the jumping hour. When the minute hand reaches 60 minutes, a device activated by a central spiral causes the end of the rod to arm a small spring with an inertia block that, in turn, drives the rotation of the hour disc. The HLS01, HLS02 and HLS03 models are produced in the limited edition of only 88 pieces and come in titanium, white gold and pink gold with alligator straps and rubber bands. The watches are water resistant to 50 metres and have sapphire crystals.

In tune with the HAUTLENCE philosophy, these timepieces are built around the caliber and follow the best Swiss watchmaking tradition keeping the overall design in the minimalist style. The exterior components then receive their punches and finishes, which make each case a totally unique product. Soft and aggressive, elegant and original, futuristic and provocative in its design, , the HLS01, HLS02 and HLS03 are syntheses of art and advanced technology, travelling along the boundary where beauty and strength merge.
